REFERENCE | JOSEPH'S LIFE |
Birth | [Genesis 30:22] And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb. [30:23] And she conceived, and bare a son; and said, God hath taken away my reproach: [30:24] And she called his name Joseph; and said, The LORD shall add to me another son. (Jacob was probably about 91 years old when Joseph was born, and Isaac 151.) |
17 Years Old | [Genesis 37:2] These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old , was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad was with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives: and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report. [37:28] Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt . (Jacob was 108 years old when Joseph was sold into Egypt, and Isaac 168.) |
17+ Years Old | [Genesis 39:20] And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison. [Psalms 105:17] He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant: [105:18] Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron: (Joseph was in prison, maybe in leg irons, maybe for quite a few years.) |
29 Years Old | [Genesis 35:28] And the days of Isaac were an hundred and fourscore years. (Jacob was probably about 120 years old and Joseph 29 when Isaac died.) |
~30 Years Old | [Genesis 41:1] And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river. [41:14] Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh. (Jacob was probably about 121 years old, and Isaac probably died the year prior.) |
30 Years Old | [Genesis 41:46] And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt. (Jacob was probably about 121 years old when Joseph became ruler in Egypt, and Isaac probably died the year prior. Apparently, this is about the time that the seven years of plenty started.) |
30+ Years Old | [Genesis 41:45] And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphnathpaaneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt. (Jacob was probably about 121 years old when Joseph was married.) |
Less than 37 Years Old | [Genesis 41:50] And unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, which Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On bare unto him. [41:51] And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house. [41:52] And the name of the second called he Ephraim: For God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction. (Joseph's 2 children were born before the 7 years of famine, thus making Joseph less than 37 years old, and his father Jacob was less than 128 years old. Therefore, Jacob was probably about 91 years older than Joseph.) |
37 Years Old | [Genesis 41:54] And the seven years of dearth began to come, according as Joseph had said: and the dearth was in all lands; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread. (Jacob was 128 years old and had not yet come down into Egypt, and Joseph 37 {30+7 good years} years old.) |
39 Years Old | [Genesis 45:6] For these two years hath the famine been in the land : and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest. [45:11] And there will I nourish thee; for yet there are five years of famine ; lest thou, and thy household, and all that thou hast, come to poverty. [46:6] And there will I nourish thee; for yet there are five years of famine ; lest thou, and thy household, and all that thou hast, come to poverty. [47:8] And Pharaoh said unto Jacob, How old art thou? [47:9] And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years : few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage. (Jacob was 130 years old when he came down into Egypt, and Joseph 39 {30+7 good years +2 years famine} years old, thus making Jacob probably about 91 years older than Joseph.) |
<56 Years Old | [Genesis 48:1} And it came to pass after these things, that one told Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick: and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. [48:10] Now the eyes of Israel were dim for age, so that he could not see. And he brought them near unto him; and he kissed them, and embraced them. (Jacob was not yet dead at 147, making Joseph ~56 years old, and Ephraim & Manasseh about 19 years old.) |
56 Years Old | [Genesis 47:28] And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years: so the whole age of Jacob was an hundred forty and seven years . (Jacob was 147 when he died, making Joseph 56 years old) |
Death at 110 Years Old | [Genesis 50:26] So Joseph died , being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt. |
Burial | [Joshua 24:32] And the bones of Joseph , which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem , in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph. |
